Given the poetic, non-realistic nature of this production, there are few moments that directly depict many of the topics below. However, given this project’s engagement with consent-based, trauma-informed performance practice, I feel it’s important to allow folks to assess their own risk and exercise boundaries as needed. If at any point during the performance you need to step out, the exit will be the middle door at the back of the room–please take care of yourself. You are welcome to return quietly when/if you are ready. The story is very non-linear and doesn’t have a traditional “plot,” so I am unconcerned about spoilers.
The show is broken up into five “tries,” each its own scene. Below, I’ve noted when the topic is dealt with most directly below with a note on how it is depicted.
The show deals extensively and directly with grief, death of a spouse, infertility, and depression throughout.
The text uses sexually explicit language and describes the process of artificial insemination in frank detail as the actors simulate it on stage. (“1st try”)
Suicidal ideation (1st try, brief reference; 3rd try, extended poetic discussion)
Miscarriage (5th try, describes aftermath in detail, no visual depiction)
